How to run Google’s desktop operating system from your pen drive

You don’t necessarily have to be the owner of a Chromebook if you wish to work on Google OS. In this article, we will tell you how to run Google’s desktop OS (Chromium OS) with the help of a USB drive. The only things you require are a fully-functional computer system (with a working USB port), a USB drive (minimum 4GB), a zipped-file extractor and an image-burning software. Windows users may use 7-Zip, macOS users, Keka, and Linux users, p7zip. For image burning, utilities like Etcher could be used.

This method works if you are using Windows, Linux or macOS. Also, you don’t have to overwrite your present operating system.

Here are the steps:
1. Download the latest Chromium OS build from an alternate source (like Arnold The Bat) since there is no official build by Google. The downloaded file will be in zipped format.
2. Unzip the file using your file extractor

3. Plug in your USB drive into the system and format it as FAT32 (or MS-DOS FAT, in case of macOS)

4. Download an image-burning software to install the image

5. Install/burn the image on the USB drive. After the process is complete, you’ll have a bootable USB drive

6. The next step involves rebooting your system and then entering boot options (choosing the OS). Here you can choose from which drive your computer should boot the OS from (your pen drive in this case)

7. After choosing your pen drive, press enter. Now, your system will boot from the USB drive and you can use the new OS

Note: While installing the OS, your pen drive will be totally erased. So, it would be wise to make a backup of the data already present in your pen drive before commencing with the steps
